CE certificates mailed dentists and hygienists
WVDA mailed continuing education certificates yesterday to 157 dentists and
dental hygienists attending the 110th Annual Session. Sixteen hours of CE
credit was available during the meeting. CE certificates are to be retained for
six (6) years since the Board of Dentistry does audit dentists and hygienists
randomly to verify reporting of CE. Dentists are to complete 35 hours of Board
approved CE every two years to retain their licenses, while hygienists must
complete 20 hours. The current two-year CE cycle ends January 31, 2018.
Leave the phone in the car
Surveys reveal production is lost and the flow of business is interrupted with
employees’ use of cell phones at work. Some employers request employees
to leave their cell phones in their cars and check their email during lunch.
Dentists alerted to TV ad for discounts
A recent TV ad “sells” consumers on saving $525 at their dentist with a
“care free dental card.” The cost of the card is $15.95 a day and covers all
family members. Dentists are alerted this is not insurance.
Medicaid input requested
Dr. Carol Buffington and Executive Director Richard Stevens will meet with
WV Medicaid officials August 19 to discuss any issues dentists have with

In Memorial: Dr. Warren Grace
WVDA is saddened to inform the dental community of the passing of Dr.
Warren Grace, 95, July 14. A lifetime member of WVDA, ADA and
Kanawha Valley Dental Society, he practiced general dentistry in Chelyan
(near Charleston) for over 60 years.
