ADA to host Medicare Prescription Drug Webinar
Today’s ADA Morning Huddle, sent members electronically, reports a Webinar
on the Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage being hosted by the ADA on
April 12 at 12:00 Noon, CT.  The Webinar is free to ADA members.  The Center
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a final rule in 2015 that
requires dentists who prescribe Part D coverage drugs for Medicare beneficiaries
to be enrolled in Medicare, or opt out of the program, for the drugs to be covered.
Dentists attending the Webinar will learn: (1) the basic differences between
Medicaid and Medicare; (2) the three options available to you so your Medicare
patients can receive prescription drug coverage; (3) resources available to help
you make the decision best for your practice; and (4) answers to frequently
asked questions.
WVDA/ADA members can go to the March 31 ADA Morning Huddle to register
for the free Webinar.
More news on Part D
In the same March 31 edition of the ADA Morning Huddle Lynn Douglas, DDS,
MPH, chief dental officer for CMS, said, “Part D drug prescribers are required to
be enrolled in, or validly opt out of, Medicare for their prescriptions to continue
to be covered for Medicare Part D.”  She said dentists are not exempt from this
requirement, adding, “If you ever prescribe drugs for patients age 65 or older,
such as antibiotics or analgesics, it’s a good idea to enroll now in Medicare as
a prescriber.”
