The West Virginia Dental Association will hold its 2019 Semiannual Session, Friday and Saturday, January 18 and 19, at the Marriott Hotel in Charleston.   The program includes:

Friday, January 18 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

7:30 am to 8:30 am  –  Registration and Continental Breakfast

7:30 am to 4:00 pm  –  Dentists, dental hygienists and assistants can earn one hour CE by visiting the scientific exhibits any time during the day.

8:30 am to 1:00 pm   –  “Control, Protocol and Risk Management Seminar for Professional Liability”  Hosted by Professional Protector Plan (PPP) for Dentists, this program will be presented by Robert Peskin, DDS, and David Shuman, Attorney.  Dentists, dental hygienists and assistants earn 4.5 hours CE for attending.  Dentists earn a 10% discount on their malpractice premium for three years by attending this program if they are covered by the PPP.   Premium reduced if enrolling in the PPP within one year.

9:00 am to 12:00 Noon  –  “Coronal Polishing for Restorative and Orthodontic Assistants”   This program will be presented by Michael Bagby, DDS, of WVU School of Dentistry  Certificates are given assistants completing the course and passing an exam following the program.

9:00 am to 12:00 Noon  –  “Nitrous Oxide Monitoring for Dental Hygienists and Assistants”  This program will be presented by Bryan Weaver, DDS, MD, of WVU School of Dentistry.  Certificates are given hygienists and assistants completing the course and passing an exam following the program.

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm  –  Lunch and Tour of Exhibits

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm  –  “Expanded Duties for Orthodontic Assistants”   This program will be presented by Anissa Anderson, DDS, MS, private practitioner.  Certificates are given assistants completing the course and passing an exam following the program.

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm  –  “Restorative Expanded Duties for Dental Assistants”  This program will be presented by Michael Bagby, DDS, of WVU School of Dentistry.  Certificates are  given assistants completing the course and passing an exam following the program.

2:00 pm to 5:00 pm  –  “Drug Diversion and Best Practices Prescribing Controlled Substances Training and Training On Prescribing and Administration Of An Oioid Antagonist”  This program will be presented by Michael O’Neil, Pharm.D., and Michael Geoff of the WV Board of Pharmacy.  This course is required of dentists by WV law every two years.  The current two year cycle is February 1, 2018 to January 31, 2020.  Dentists, dental hygienists and assistants earn two hours CE credit for attending this course.

Saturday, January 18 beginning at 9:00 a.m.

9:00 am to 11:45 am  –  “Beating Up On Your Patient’s Periodontal Disease: A Minimally Invasive Anti-Microbial Treatment”   This program is presented by James Kohner, DDS of Denver, CO.   In addition to dentists, it is open to dental hygienists and assistants.   This is a three-hour CE course.

12:00 Noon to 1:15 pm  –  Luncheon, Awards Presentation and Installation of 2019 WVDA Officers.

1:15 pm to 4:00 pm  –  “How Crown Lengthening WILL Enhance Your Restorative Results”  This program is presented by James Kohner, DDS, of Denver, CO.  In addition to dentists this course is open to dental hygienists and assistants.  This is a three-hour CE course.

4:00 pm  –  Adjournment
