Q – My dentist says I will need a crown. What is it and are there more than one kind?
A – A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth — to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. A crown is cemented to your tooth and not removable so it is called “fixed”. The crowns listed below are a among those available from DSG Standard and DSG Tincher/Butler Labs.
Fixed Products – Porcelain Fused to Metal
Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns (PFM)
DSG prides itself in delivering consistently high-quality PFM restorations. The metals in the crown range from high noble gold to non-precious metals. Porcelain is layered on to the metal to produce a strong and natural appearing replacement for teeth.
The Captek™ crown is the result of 30 years of research by an internationally renowned prosthodontics and world-class dental technician. This unique scientific breakthrough enables dentists to deliver natural, long-lasting crowns and bridges that are healthier for surrounding gums. Captek’s advanced technology combines all the advantages of high-purity gold, without sacrificing the strength of lower gold dental materials.

Cercon-Smart-Ceramic™ restorations are manufactured using a computer-assisted milling machine. These restorations are machined to precise tolerances, with outstanding fit and marginal integrity and the strength that is similar to metal.
IPS Empress’s® leucite-reinforced, pre-ceramed structure and pressure-injected fabrication are twice as strong as conventional ceramic materials and are highly esthetic. Resin bonding has also been demonstrated to significantly increase the overall strength of a restoration. The IPS Empress® system incorporates a full bonding system to ensure superior strength, less breakage and fewer repairs
The lithium disilicate blocks of IPS e.max® are composed of a unique crystalline structure, giving this material its unbelievable esthetics and strength. In durability studies, IPSe.max® tested nearly three times stronger than veneered zirconium oxide. DSG Standard and DSG Tincher/Butler labs give you the option of choosing CAD or Press for your IPS e.max® restorations.
Dental Services Group Standard and Tincher/Butler is proud to offer our own brand of zirconia restoration. With natural translucency void of dark margins and high flexural strength, DSz™ offers the finest patient-satisfying benefits of CAD/CAM fabrication.
We took much of the esthetics and durability of our DSz™ zirconia and gave you the ultimate zirconia restoration: DSmz™ – DSG’s very own full-contour zirconia. Its monolithic properties and multiple shade options make DSmzan cost-effective and patient-pleasing solution.
The Lava™ All-Ceramic system from 3M™ ESPE™ provides cutting-edge CAD/CAM precision and esthetics for all ceramic crowns and bridges on a zirconium oxide base. With natural-looking esthetics, incredible strength and biocompatibility, Lava’s CAD/CAM origins enable less tooth structure to be removed, and conventional cementation techniques are used.
NobelProcera® is unique because it offers beautiful, translucent individualized prosthetics that are machined for a perfect fit. DSG Standard and DSG Tincher/Butler offer crowns, bridges, abutments and laminates available in alumina or zirconia.
Dental veneers are wafer-thin, translucent ceramic shells that are placed over the tooth and applied with aspecial glue. Veneers are predominantly used on the front teeth.
