Legislators go home without agreeing on budget
The regular session of the WV Legislature adjourned without lawmakers reaching
an agreement on the State’s 2017 budget (7/1/16 – 6/30/17).  Governor Earl Ray
Tomblin is expected to bring lawmakers back into special session within the near
future to address the budget, which is to become effective July 1, 2016.   WVDA
is preparing a report of the legislative session for distribution to dentists.
Executive Council meeting April 16
The Executive Council will meet April 16 at Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown.
The agenda includes selection of candidates for 2017 offices – President Elect,
Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and ADA Delegate.  Members interested in
being nominated may send their name and address to WVDA – wvrds@aol.com
Gordon Gee, President of WVU, will speak at the Council meeting.
110th Annual Session plans underway
Dr. Robert Wanker, 2016 President, is planning the 110th Annual Session.  The
featured clinician is Dr. Charles Goodacre who will present two programs, July 22.
They are “Diagnosis, Design and Treatment  Principles That Optimize Success
With Implant Single Crowns And Fixed Partial  Dentures” and “Contemporary
Concepts For Complete Dentures And Implant Dentistry.”
“Infectious Oral Lesions and How To Treat and Control These Lesions” will be
presented by Dr. Jerry Bouquot and Dr. Robert Wanker on July 23.
“Applications Of Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) For The Dentist”
is also scheduled for July 23.   It will be presented by Dr. Leigh Speer.
“New Concepts In Endodontics” which will be presented by Dr. Thomas Borgia,
Dean of WVU School of Dentistry, July 23.
Specialty groups meeting in conjunction with the 110th Annual Session include
WV Association of Orthodontists, WV Society of Endodontists, WV Society of
Pediatric Dentists, WV Society of Periodontists and WV Society of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Keynote speaker for the Celebration Dinner, July 22, is West Virginia Governor
Earl Ray Tomblin.   A reception honoring Past Presidents will precede dinner.
Special events include “Women In Dentistry Forum”, “Dental Students Preparing
For Practice” and “Advancing the New Dentist.”
