Women in Dentistry
The third West Virginia Women in Dentistry met for breakfast, Saturday, July 22, 2017, in the Spring Room of The Greenbrier during the 111th Annual Session. Gayle Manchin, Secretary of the WV Department of Arts and Sciences was the keynote speaker. Secretary Manchin’s husband U. S. Senator Joe Manchin was in attendance. Eighteen dental students from the WV University School of Dentistry also attended the event. Most of the discussion centered around children’s dental health. Secretary Manchin was commended for having a state law passed requiring children to be examined by a dentist in Kindergarten or first grade; second grade; fourth grade; and seventh grade.
The first West Virginia Women in Dentistry Luncheon was held July 18th, 2015 at the annual session of the West Virginia Dental Association held at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs. Speakers were ADA President Dr. Maxine Feinberg and Dr. Lee Ann Brady. With about 30 women dentists in attendance it was a great forum to discuss the unique challenges faced by professional women.
