Plans for directory begin
WVDA has started work with E&M Consulting in drafting the 2016 Membership
Directory, published each year containing a roster of members including names,
addresses and telephone numbers. The directory will be distributed statewide to
members as well as vendors doing business with dentists.
Medical waste haulers update coming
WVDA will publish in the forthcoming WVDA News a directory of WV-approved
commercial haulers of infectious medical waste. Dentists are required by law to
engage an approved hauler to dispose of infectious medical waste.
Governor calls special session of Legislature
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has called lawmakers to the Capitol, May 16, for a
special session to begin work on the State’s 2016-17 budget. Lawmakers did
not reach an agreement on the budget during the regular session. WVDA will
monitor action on the budget and support an increase in the tax on tobacco, a
proposal by the Governor to be considered by lawmakers. WVDA will also
convey to lawmakers the impact delayed Medicaid payments has on dentists.
Pediatric dentists to meet
The WV Academy of Pediatric Dentists will meet Saturday, July 23, at 12:00
Noon in the Washington of The Greenbrier, during the 110th Annual Session.
Feds issue Medicaid MCO rule
The Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new Medicaid
managed care requirements in late April, the first overhaul of the program in
more than a decade. The final rule establishes conditions for states when
setting and overseeing network adequacy standards in Medicaid and the
Children’s Health Insurance Program. States must assess and certify the
adequacy of a managed care plan’s provider network annually at a minimum
and also when there is a major change to the program design.

In Memorial: Dr. William Ray
William “Bill” Alfred Ray, II, DDS, of Fairmont passed away May 2, 2016, at
his home. A graduate of WVU School of Dentistry, he practiced with his wife,
Dr. Linda Flint Ray in Pleasant Valley.
